The Real Problem

You hear the fullness in your head. Your hands keep landing on the same chords.

You know the records that move you — the dense, rich voicings, the reharmonizations that take a song somewhere unexpected, the players who improvise like they're just talking. You want to sound like that.

But you sit down and the same shapes come out. The same go-to chords. You add an extension here and there, but it doesn't open up the way you hear it in your head. And when it's time to improvise or write something of your own, you don't know where to start.

That's not a talent problem, and it's not about learning more chord names.

Fuller chords, real reharmonization, improvising, composing — they all grow from the same root: an ear you actually trust.

That's exactly where this six weeks starts — and what it's built to develop.

This Is Different

Most courses teach you about music. This one teaches you to hear it.

There's a difference between knowing a chord is a Dm9 and feeling why it works — why it opens something up, why it resolves the way it does, why it hits differently on Sunday morning than it does on a late-night session.

Players who sound full aren't memorizing more chords than you. They're hearing more — and trusting what they hear. That's what lets the dense voicings, the reharmonizations, the improvising, and the writing all flow from the same place. We build that in six weeks. No textbook theory. No prerequisites. Just the framework I've used at the highest levels of music — broken down so you can use it immediately, wherever you are right now.

What We Cover

Six weeks. One shift.

  • 01
    Train Your Ear

Intervals, chord qualities, bass motion. This thread runs all six weeks — everything else builds on it.

  • 02
    Richer Chords & Voicings

Extensions, color tones, triad-stacking, shell and rootless voicings. The stuff that makes people ask, "Wait — how did you do that?"

  • 03
    Reharmonization

Substitutions, tritone subs, adding color without chaos. How to take a familiar song somewhere new.

  • 04
    Improvisation

Chord tones, melodic cells, phrasing and space. The art of saying something musical without overthinking it.

  • 05
    Songwriting & Composition

Motifs, progressions, song structure. How to take a feeling and finish it.

  • 06
    Make It Your Own

Live hot seats. You perform. We listen. You leave with something complete.

How It Works

Live. Small. Real feedback.

Every week is 90 minutes on Zoom — small group, real time. Each session includes hot seat coaching: a player performs live while the group listens and learns, then gets direct, in-the-moment feedback. Between sessions, you have a private group chat and direct access to me.

15 seats — capped on purpose. Small enough that every player gets seen, heard, and coached. That only works live.

Everything is recorded — so if life happens, you won't fall behind. But the sessions are where the real growth happens. There's no substitute for playing in front of people who care.

You're Not Doing This Alone

A room full of players reaching for the same thing you are.

Growth slows down in isolation. It speeds up around people pushing in the same direction. This cohort puts you in a small circle of serious, like-minded players — jazz, gospel, R&B, and neo-soul — at roughly your level, all working toward a fuller, freer sound.

You'll hear how others voice the same chord. Steal ideas. Get feedback that actually lands because the people giving it understand exactly what you're chasing. The private community keeps that energy going between sessions — and long after the six weeks are up.

What Players Are Saying

"Chris is a master at what he does. I walk away from most of our interactions with a deeper understanding of both music and life. The most valuable thing I've learned from Chris is to maintain my child-like wonder in all areas of my life."

— Nick, Private Student

"Definitely better this go round for sure — and only within a month. This is working man, I can't wait to keep going."

— Isaiah, Private Student

"I've been looking for reharmonization and stepping outside the scale methods for DECADES. You're the first that actually explained it in layman's terms."

— Rapid Reharm Reference Customer

"I try to come at reharm from as many angles as possible. I purchased your reharm resource and it's EXACTLY what I have been looking for."

— Rapid Reharm Reference Customer
